Here's another WorldNetDaily hit-piece on the Pope via Walter Williams. Sheesh.
Look, I hate taxes just as much as the next guy. Actually, I hate taxes more than anyone else in this country. Reducing the role and the size of the government is how we eliminate the tax burden. Tax evasion is not. As for Williams, didn't Jesus Himself say, "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s" when asked specifically about taxes? (Matthew 22:15-22)
The Pope's encyclical hasn't been pubished yet. I'm assuming this part about tax evasion will be very small and the point he'll try to make will be about the role of social charity for both the individual and government. While I don't think government should play a larger roll than the individual, supporting charity is something that has been a Church teaching since Jesus starting calling his first apostle "Rock."
Also, the article claims that an encyclical is "the most authoritative statement a pope can issue" which isn't even true. The only time the Pope speaks with the authority of Christ through the Church is to clarify or further define challenged doctrine. Something that has only happened a handfull of times in two-thousand years.
I have no idea why Walter William (a man I truly respect) whould jump to such conclusions that Pope Benedict supports a "welfare state" or why he chooses to make judgments about the Catholic Church, which is something he obvioulsy has no clear understand of.
It's 12:45 AM as I write this, and maybe I've had one too many glasses of Scotch, but it would be wrong if I didn't do some "blogging" before bed. I'm moving to Omaha in the morning, so I just wanted to write down a few thoughts since it's my last night as a single guy.
By moving, I'll be leaving behind some of the best friends a guy could ever have, but I'll still be working in Lincoln for the time being, so we'll stay in touch I'm sure.
I'm getting married on September 1. Hope God doesn't mind that I'm moving in a little early too much :)
I'm actually a little sad. I've lived here since December 1999.
I'm sad to say that I've never seen a single one of his matches. From the photos I had in the old Apter mags, he definitely had a unique look.
RIP Missing Link.
Byron "Dewey" Robertson, who gained his most fame as the Missing Link in several territories as well as WWE in the late 80s, passed away at 3:30 a.m. today at Henderson Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario after a year-long battle with cancer.
The death was not unexpected, as doctors did not expect him to live the night on Tuesday. Robertson was 68.
A man who just died is delivered to a Kentucky mortuary wearing an expensive expertly tailored black suit. Bubba the mortician asks the deceased's wife how she would like the body dressed. He points out that the man does look very good in the black suit he is already wearing.
The widow however, says that she always thought her husband looked his best in blue, and that she wants him in a blue suit. She gives Bubba a blank check and says, "I don't care what it costs, but please have my husband in a blue suit for the viewing."
The woman returns the next day for the viewing. To her delight she finds her husband dressed in a gorgeous blue suit with a subtle chalk stripe; the suit fits him perfectly. She says to Bubba, "Whatever the cost, I'm very satisfied. You did an excellent job and I'm very grateful. How much did you spend?"
To her astonishment, Bubba presents her with the blank check.
Dere's no charge," he says.
"No, really, I must pay you for the cost of that exquisite blue suit!" she says.
"Honestly, ma'am," Bubba says, "it didn't cost me a ting. You see, a deceased gentleman of about your husband's size was brought in shortly after you left yesterday, and he was wearing an attractive blue suit. I asked his missus if she minded him going to his grave wearing a black suit instead, and she said it made no difference as long as he looked nice."
No cause of death yet, but he was only 43 years old.

The cause of death is unknown at this time.
1Wrestling.com sends condolences to the friends and family of Bryan Adams.
Here's Ron Paul at the Iowa convention. Great, great stuff.
He talks about abortion, taxes, REPEALING THE 16TH AMENDMENT, strengthening our national sovereignty, border security, gun rights, home-schooling rights, the UN... you name it.
He came in 5th in the Iowa straw poll with over 9% of the vote. This is GREAT news!
Best quote: "9/11 could have been prevented if we would have a lot more respect for the second amendment!"
Eh? I wasn't impressed by anything on the show. The "new direction" pretty much sucked if you ask me.
But that's not why I'm posting. I'm making a prediction about the paternity angle. The storyline direction will be that Stephanie is filing the paternity suit.
1. The father of Stephanie's baby has never been revealed in storyline. 2. Vince said that the day after he "died" Stephanie was meeting with lawyers. 3. Stephanie herself said in a documentary that Vince wanted to be the storyline father of her child and she talked him out of it. 4. WWE is so f'n stupid that they would think this is a good idea. 5. All of us are so f'n stupid that we'll keep watching.
Click the link to see a clip from the ABC debate as well as a follow-up interview on Fox News. Fox gave him almost 10 minutes! That's a hell of lot more time than ABC gave him. They even ask a bunch of issue-specific policy questions.
This is a great day! My respect for Fox News has returned!
I just finished watching the Iowa debate this morning. I was happy to see some of the candidates endorse the Fair Tax. Of course none of the alleged "top 3" would endorse it. If the Republican Party had any guts (or brains) they'd make the Fair Tax THE central issue of the party platform.
And, as always, Ron Paul was NOT asked about the tax code.
Kudos to Tom Tancredo for name-dropping our pal Neal Boortz!
So Elton John is blaming the internet for bad music. That's all fine and dandy, but what's his excuse for the last 35 years that he's been polluting the airwaves?
He claims it is destroying good music, saying:
“The internet has stopped people from going out and being with each other, creating stuff.
“Instead they sit at home and make their own records, which is sometimes OK but it doesn’t bode well for long-term artistic vision.
“It’s just a means to an end.
“We’re talking about things that are going to change the world and change the way people listen to music and that’s not going to happen with people blogging on the internet."
But don't ask me how I can show you my profile. I think you have to create an account and search for me. DO IT! It will change your life! For the better!
The rapid decline in ratings for RAW with the show delivering a 2.5 rating based on data compiled by Nielsen Media Research. That's the lowest rating since 1997 for WWE's flagship program, and an alarming drop from last week's already disappointing 3.4 rating.
Wow. I wonder who Vince will blame for this. You know, Stephanie has been in charge of creative for over five years and the product has continued to suck, while ratings have continued to drop. Since it's pretty obvious that McMahons refuse to accept responsibility for this, I guess they'll have to hire back Paul Heyman so that they can blame him again.
