How silly/stupid.

A Florida teacher may have to pull an unemployment check out of his hat after performing magic in front of students, according to reports.

Jim Piculas said he made a toothpick disappear and reappear in front of students at the Rushe Middle School in Land 'O Lakes, Fla., Local6.com reported. He said he later got a call from the supervisor of teachers, saying he had been accused of wizardry.

"I get a call the middle of the day from head of supervisor of substitute teachers. He says, 'Jim, we have a huge issue. You can't take any more assignments. You need to come in right away,'" he told Local6.com.

Piculas said he’s concerned the incident may prevent him from being considered for future jobs.

Pro-Wayne Allyn Root, that is. He's the leading candidate for the Libertarian Party presidential nomination right now.

During this campaign for our party's nomination, several of my esteemed opponents have spoken in favor of imposing a 30% national sales tax on all goods and services- combined with a check paid to everyone in the country (in the form of an automatic annual tax rebate - whether you've earned income or paid taxes, or not). Our campaign has received hundreds of requests to comment on the “Fair Tax,” many of them proponents. But after studying the proposal, we conclude that the “Fair Tax” is a bad idea.

The so-called “Fair Tax” is not an advance for freedom; it is a prescription for tyranny and will relegate our descendants to being little more than welfare-dependent wards of the government.

Advocating a “Fair Tax” is bad for our party and bad for America, and we believe that having our party's nominee advocate this would tarnish the Libertarian Party's brand.

Our campaign offers a competing vision.

Imagine instead a country where businesses and individuals would no longer need to account to the government for their income. Imagine a country where we can be free from the Internal Revenue Service. Imagine in one instant eliminating individual federal income taxes, corporate federal income taxes, payroll taxes, death taxes, the marriage penalty, excise taxes, and even the dreaded AMT (Alternative Minimum Tax) - all of it at once, gone forever.

Oh, and to Neal Boortz: sorry but I agree with Wayne on the Fair Tax. It's a great idea until you bring in the whole part about rebate checks.

That's kind of surprising. As much as I like Alan Keyes, this is actually better for the Constitution Party. For whatever reason, people just don't ever vote for Keyes. I'm not exactly the biggest fan of Chuck Baldwin though.

Here's a pretty interesting article about religion in Russia. I can see both sides here. It's frustrating to see Catholics and Protestants treated unfairly by the government and it's official (Russian Orthodox) religion, but I also think that Catholic and Protestant missionaries need to show respect for the Orthodox faith which was persecuted for a hundred years in the region. I think the attempts at "sheep stealing" need to stop immediately as well.

While church attendance in Russia is very low, polls show that Russians are embracing Russian Orthodoxy as part of their identity. In one recent poll, 71 percent of respondents described themselves as Russian Orthodox, up from 59 percent in 2003.

There are a few hundred thousand Roman Catholics in Russia, and the Russian Orthodox Church has had tense relations with the Vatican, accusing Catholic missionaries of trying to convert Russians. The Vatican says it seeks only to reach out to existing Catholics.

The Russian government has often refused visas for foreign Catholic priests, whom the Vatican has sent because there are few Russian ones.

There have been considerable numbers of Protestants in Russia since the second half of the 18th century. After the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, Protestant faiths in the West saw Russia as fertile territory and spent heavily to send missionaries to help the existing worshipers and to convert others.

But the Russian Orthodox Church, which was widely persecuted under Communism, was rebuilding and worried about losing adherents.

Here's an awesome write-up about Pope Benedict from Rush Limbaugh.

I found this fascinating, when he was talking about the concept of freedom here. Let me, ladies and gentlemen, focus on this. He starts by saying, "Some today argue that respect for freedom of the individual makes it wrong to seek truth, including the truth about what is good. In some circles to speak of truth is seen as controversial or divisive, and consequently best kept in the private sphere." What this means is, truth is arrived at in a black-and-white way. Good and bad, good and evil, arrived at in a black-and-white way. The relativists don't want there to be any bad; they don't want there to be any wrong. Therefore, there can't be any good. There just IS. You are free to do whatever you want, and anybody who condemns you is to be called on it. Now, the concept of freedom is not that. That is not what freedom is. Not in terms of our founding and not in terms of the way the pope was speaking about it here, because freedom -- you know, we are all born as young little savages.

Alan Keyes mulls third-party candidacy

If Keyes runs on the Constitution Party ticket, he's got my vote.

Alan Keyes, who worked in the administration of Ronald Reagan and unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for president three times, announced Tuesday night that he has left the party.

Speaking to a group of about 60 people in the Lincoln Ballroom at Genetti’s Best Western Inn in Hazleton, Keyes, 57, said he could no longer stay in a party that has lost its way.

He said the “Republican Party has come to a dark and confused place.”

Though he stood in front of a red, white and blue banner that read, “We need Alan Keyes for president,” Keyes did not say he was running this fall. He hinted at that possibility and mentioned the Constitution Party as a potential fit for him, but stopped short of making that announcement official.

Believes Democrats are out of touch with American citizens

Washington, D.C. - Mike Gravel, a former Alaskan Senator and Democratic candidate for president, has joined the Libertarian Party.

"I'm joining the Libertarian Party because it is a party that combines a commitment to freedom and peace that can't be found in the two major parties that control the government and politics of America," says Gravel. "My libertarian views, as well as my strong stance against war, the military industrial complex and American imperialism, seem not to be tolerated by Democratic Party elites who are out of touch with the average American; elites that reject the empowerment of American citizens I offered to the Democratic Party at the beginning of this presidential campaign with the National Initiative for Democracy."

So why am I posting this? Because said commissioner is one B. Brian Blair, former professional wrestler. Could this be his master plan to stop the Iron Sheik from his world-wide "humbling" tour, of which Blair very narrowly excaped during Wrestlemania III?
